Meet Our Team

I qualified in Gent, Belgium in 1989, came to Northern Ireland for what I had planned was two years and nearly thirty five years later I am still here! I started off as a mixed animal vet but have been working with only small animals for the last twenty five + years. I have developed special interests in soft tissue surgery and diabetes. I became principal of the practice in 2000 before coming clinical director in 2022 and am proud to be working with such an excellent team of vets, nurses and admin staff. I am married to Michael and we have three sons. In my spare time I enjoy walking and have recently started running.

Hi, I'm Johnny. I've been involved with Gortlands team for 13 years. I've enjoyed seeing the practice develop over time and I love working alongside talented and motivated people. Outside of work I have a lovely wife and two great kids. Our pet dog is Angus, a two year old flat coated retriever and we also have a guinea pig called Pom-Pom. I enjoy being involved with a local church and play tennis to unwind.

After some years working predominantly in Scotland, I returned home to Belfast in 2011. Bringing with me our quirky labrador-with-stumpy-legs that my wife had rescued a number of years previously he's done quite some miles over the years and maintains a truly remarkable sense of direction (and passion for sheep) into his latter years. I enjoy all aspects of work as a vet, but nothing beats the cute and quirky pets I'm privileged to meet and care for every day!

Graduating from Glasgow in 2013 I joined the Gortlands team as a new graduate and have been with them ever since! I have a passion for general practice and find the bonds I've developed with my patients and their families to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my time here. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, close friends and our growing menagerie of rescued pets! To relax I practice yoga, am an avid board gamer and hike with our very energetic shepard cross Lucky.

I worked at Gortlands for a few months just after graduating in 2019, I returned to work here full time in October 2022.

I have an interest in small animal dentistry (cats and dogs) and hope to complete a dentistry certificate in the next few years.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time walking my two pups- I have an 11 month old Belgian Shepherd x German Shepherd called Raven and a 10 month old Border Collie called Joey. I also have 3 cats and a snake at home.

I studies at the University of Bristol and after working in first opinion practice for a few years, I returned there to undertake a rotating internship and post graduate diploma.

I then returned to Northern Ireland and joined the team in Gortlands in Summer 2023.

I have a particular interest in surgery.

Outside of work O spend my free time at gymnastics or walking my working cocker spaniel Maddy.

I joined Gortlands as a third year Veterinary Nursing student where I completed my clinical placement year. I have now graduated from Scotland's Rural University College with a BSc in Veterinary Nursing and I feel so privileged to continue my career with such a great team of vets and nurses. During my spare time I enjoy horse riding, keeping active and spending time with family and friends.

I joined the Gortlands team in 2008 after completing a National Diploma in animal management. Whilst working in Gortlands I have completed an Animal Nursing Assistant certificate and more recently a qualification in monitoring anaesthesia in small animals. I come from a farming background and have always had dogs or cats (usually both) in my life. I have a rescue Jack Russell Terrier - Nessy

I’m passionate about everything to do with animals. I have worked in the pet and veterinary industry for over 20 years. I joined the welcoming team in Gortlands in March 2024. I love supporting colleagues and clients. I have little boy and a crossbreed dog called Harley. In my spare time I enjoy walks with my family and Harley, yoga going to the gym and volunteering to reduce food waste with Olio.

Have been working in Gortlands for 20+ years and in that time have enjoyed and learnt a lot along the way. Outside of work a lot of my time is taken up sport, walking our dog and travelling. 

I first came to Gortlands on work experience from school when I was 16 and I am still here 24 years later! I am a nursing assistant but am also responsible for many other aspects of the clinic such as organising rotas, stock control and contributing to the smooth running of the practice from day to day. In my spare time I enjoy baking and I have a Bernese Mountain dog called Harry.

I have worked at Gortlands for many years in fact Mr. Morrow was still practice principal when I arrived! I enjoy many aspects of the job, and especially the variety of animals and meeting all their owners. I have special responsibility for our in-house laboratory and making sure that it is all running smoothly. I own a dog called Marley and a cat called Norman. Norman was a sick kitten that I nursed back to health, putting my nursing training to good use.

 I started working at Gortlands in 2010 as a nursing assistant. In 2020 I changed to working on reception. I love my job and being part of a great team of vets and nurses makes every day enjoyable.

I'm a nurse and I started working here in December 2015 which I enjoy very much. I mainly enjoy doing anaesthetics and making sure your little one recovers well from surgery, so much so that I have completed an anaesthesia course a few years ago.  I am also a weight clinic nurse here and this involves reviewing pets that are a bit overweight and giving advice as to what we can do to help. I have always loved animals and I have 3 dogs and a cat of my own. I spend most of my time walking my dogs with my husband and my baby girl.

I came to work at Gortlands in August 2016 after having spent most of my working life in an office environment. It was always my dream to work with animals and it is a pleasure to finally be doing so, and with such a friendly and dedicated team of vets and nurses. I love all small animals, but in particular cats as I have grown up with them from a very young age and at present am the shared owner of two. I love the diversity of the job and the fact that no two days are the same and I love getting to know our fluffy regulars and their owners.

I helped out at Gortlands whilst I was in school completing my A-Levels and also when I moved onto studying at cafre for the VNA course.

I started here as a full time Veterinary Nursing Assistant in 2020.

My favourite part of the job is being a support system for the animals that come in to have procedures with us. I try to take the roll of a loving guardian for pets while they are separated from their owners.

I also love to see a boxer come into the clinic - as I grew up with a fawn male boxer named Sully who I absolutely adored!

I started in Sept 2022 as a student from CAFRE. I have now achieved my level 2 certificate for animal nursing assistants and I love being part of the team at Gortlands. At home I'm kept busy with my many animals including sheep and goats. In my spare time I enjoy horse riding and playing hockey.

I have worked in Gortlands for over 30 years. I enjoy meeting all clients and their lovely pets. I have a greyhound, a cat and a ferret that I love. In my spare time I volunteer helping the homeless in Belfast.

My first summer job was at Gortlands, it was a large and small animal practice then. This time I have been part of the team for 26 years. I look forward to coming to work because of the people there.

No day is ever the same, I enjoy the fact that we get to know our clients and their pets and support them through the course of their pet’s lives.

At home, I currently have a rehomed lurcher, Freddie. He is almost eleven and we have just got a new Flatcoat pup, Fergus, so life is not dull!

I started working at Gortlands in 2016. I love my job and meeting all the clients and their pets. At home I have a lovely ginger cat called Barney.

I had been client for 20 years when I got the opportunity for a career change and started working with the great team at Gortlands. I really enjoy meeting the clients and their pets in the busy and varied role at reception. Having been a horse owner for a long time, I now have a rescue dog and spend my spare time walking her. I also love gardening and travel.
